Sony has absolutely dominated the Game Awards nominations this year by sweeping a total of 20 nominations across 31 categories of the award ceremony. God of War: Ragnarok alone has garnered 10 nominations across various categories, followed by Horizon Forbidden West with seven nominations. Gran Turismo 7 has also been nominated in two award categories. Players can finally look at all Sony first-party games dominating the Game Awards 2022 and the categories that they have been nominated for.

4 The Last Of Us Part 1 (Remake)

The Last of Us Part 1 is a remake of the original game of the same name from 2013. This game has been developed by Naughty Dog from the ground up and has been released specifically for the Playstation 5. Though it is debatable whether this remake was a necessary one or not, nonetheless The Last of Us Part 1 improves upon the original game in both gameplay and graphics, making it truly feel next-gen.

The Last of Part 1 follows Joel and Ellie as they try to survive in a harsh post-apocalyptic world following a global pandemic that turned humans into mindless zombies. The original game had already won many awards, and following that trend The Last of Us Part 1 has been nominated for the award for Innovation and accessibility.

3 Gran Turismo 7

Gran Turismo 7 is a sports simulation racing game developed by Polyphony Digital and released back in March 2022. This game was one of the earliest Sony first-party exclusives to be released on PlayStation 5 and improved upon its predecessors in every way possible. It brings back features from the past iterations of the franchise, whilst also adding new improvements into the mix. It makes use of Dual Sense’s haptic feedback to give players a more realistic racing experience. Gran Turismo 7 also pushes the graphics of the franchise beyond its limits, providing an almost photo-realistic touch to the game. The tracks and cars have never looked better, and the environmental changes like the crowd, weather, and markings are more detailed than ever before.

Gran Turismo is Sony’s answer to Microsoft’s famous Forza franchise, bringing players the best racing experience that the PlayStation 5 has to offer. Gran Turismo 7 has a score of 87 on Metacritic. IGN gave the game a 9/10 while GameSpot gave it an 8/10. Gran Turismo 7 has been nominated for two awards at the Game Awards 2022, which include the categories for Best Sports Racing Game and Best Audio Design.

2 Horizon Forbidden West

Horizon Forbidden West is the highly anticipated sequel to Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn and is considered to be one of the best games to be released this year. Horizon Forbidden West continues Alloy’s journey as she unravels the mysteries of her world while fighting humongous robotic dinosaurs. The game has made many noteworthy additions to its gameplay and mechanics. The map is much larger than in the previous game and there are newer and more dangerous machines to fight. Each area in the game emits its own unique vibe, with the most interesting part being the game’s new underwater exploration. Horizon Forbidden West is an absolute joy to play on the PlayStation 4 but on the PlayStation 5, it is a graphical marvel, to say the least.

Everything about Horizon Forbidden West screams quality, making it one of the top contenders for the Game of the Year Award this year. This game has garnered exceptional reviews from critics and players alike and has a score of 88 on Metacritic. IGN gave it a solid 9/10 while GameSpot gave it a score of 8/10. Horizon Forbidden West has received a staggering seven nominations at the Game Awards 2022. Aside from the Game of the Year award, the other categories include Best Game Direction, Best Audio Design, Best Action Adventure, Best Performance, Best Art Direction, and lastly Best Narrative.

1 God of War: Ragnarok

Santa Monica Studios have made their return this year with the release of the highly awaited God of War: Ragnarok, which serves as a sequel to the critically acclaimed God of War 2018. God of War: Ragnarok is an action-adventure game that follows Kratos and his son Atreus three years after the events of the previous entry.The father-son duo has since been in hiding, preparing and training for the battles to come. Ragnarok is an excellent entry in the God of War series that pushes the franchise forward in the best way possible

With a solid narrative, thrilling combat, great voice acting, and jaw-dropping visuals, this game is all but set to be crowned the Game of the Year at the Game Awards 2022. Though the decision still lies with the fans. God of War: Ragnarok has been nominated for a whopping ten awards at the Game Awards 2022, which makes up half of Sony’s total Game Awards nominations. The award categories include Game of the Year, Best Performance, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, Best Action/Adventure, Best Audio Design, and Best Game Direction among others.
