Shortly before The Last Jedi hit theaters, it was announced that the Episode 8 director, Rian Johnson, would be creating a new series of connected films in the Star Wars universe. Apparently, he’s not the only creator being offered that exciting contract. Longtime Game of Thrones show runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are now also slated to write and produce a new series of Star Wars films.

Although the pair were recently in hot water with some fans due to controversy surrounding Confederate, the team is still responsible for one of the most popular shows of the modern era. It’s no surprise that Star Wars would want to capitalize on that popularity by bringing the team onboard. Considering the pair’s usual material, it will be interesting to see how dark and mature these films will be…
