PS Plus and Xbox Game Pass both offer new monthly games for subscribers to enjoy, ranging from old classics to new releases. These services have become a new front for the rival consoles to compete on, with fans keeping close eyes on their regular updates. While it usually comes down to preference as to which one is better, it looks like Xbox Game Pass is the stronger choice for Halloween 2022, especially if gamers are looking for new additions that suit the season.

Xbox Game Pass Is the Superior Service for Halloween Gaming

October brings five games to the PS Plus service. Hot Wheels Unleashed, Injustice 2, and Superhot are now available to subscribers worldwide. Meanwhile, users in Asia will be getting Rogue Explorer and Crisis Wing, along with the worldwide additions. While it’s a pretty varied selection with some promising titles, PS Plus’ titles for the month don’t offer much in the way of Halloween gaming, with no horror titles in sight.

On the other hand, alongside a long list of additions like Persona 5 Royal and Coral Island, Xbox Game Pass is getting three new horror games in October as day one titles. The first one on the way is Scorn, coming to the service on October 14. This first-person horror game has some FPS elements to it but is mostly about puzzles and exploration of its disturbingly fleshy world. The grotesque art style inspired by H.R. Giger, best known for his work on the Alien franchise, and surrealist artist Zdzislaw Beksinski makes for a game that achieves its horror greatly through visuals.

Later in the month, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will be getting A Plague Tale: Requiem on October 18. The sequel to 2019’s A Plague Tale: Innocence follows a sibling duo as they travel through medieval France. Plague Tale isn’t a horror franchise in the classic sense, but it holds a somber story set against a deeply atmospheric world with stealth-based gameplay. That makes it a great game for anyone looking to get into the spooky mood without putting themselves through the fright of jumpscares or monstrous creatures.

Finally, just days before Halloween, Signalis comes to Xbox Game Pass on October 27. Signalis is a sci-fi survival horror game inspired by classic cosmic horror tropes with a 3D pixelated art style. The game takes place in a dystopian future where humanity has ventured far beyond Earth and lives alongside humanoid androids, such as the player character Elster. Its gameplay looks a lot like early Resident Evil or Silent Hill games in its puzzle-solving, inventory management, and cryptic exploration.

These three games coming to Xbox Game Pass are sure to hold horror fans over for October much better than PS Plus’ latest selection. However, it’s still difficult to say which service is the best option for users. The higher tiers of PS Plus include in their library games from previous generations, going as far back as the original PlayStation’s iconic exclusives. While Xbox’s backwards compatible library is great too, Xbox Game Pass is becoming the go-to for new releases. That makes it hard to say which service is the better overall, but Xbox Game Pass can at least count October 2022 as another win under its belt.
