First up, Infinity Ward has confirmed Modern Warfare 2 alongside Warzone 2. While the announcements aren’t exactly shocking following weeks of rumors and the typical Call of Duty release cycle, it’s the first confirmation of what fans will be playing to close out the year. Both games are reportedly built on a new engine, and it’s unclear if last-gen consoles will be supported or not.

Next up, The Wii U and 3DS eShops are being shut down, a move that hasn’t sat well with fans. Nintendo has no plans to preserve games on the platforms that will be made unavailable when the stores are disabled, which has sparked yet another conversation about games preservation. It’s a disappointing, but expected move likely motivated by selling more Switch consoles.
Additionally, Nintendo hacker Gary Bowser has received a 40-month prison sentence for his role in distributing jailbroken Nintendo software and hacked ROMs. The move circles back to ongoing conversations about preservation and piracy, and will have interesting ramifications for emulation going forward.
Rounding things out, a BioShock movie is now in the works at Netflix, following an effort to get such a film made back when the original game released. Additionally, Martha is Dead is reportedly being censored on PlayStation consoles, which has fans accusing PlayStation of tampering with art.
