Objective based, competitive gameplay has been seen plenty of times in gaming. Overwatch 2, for example, has players capture points or secure a payload. However, Creative Assembly ensured gamers that Hyenas will offer a new multiplayer shooter experience and showed off what an early version of the game would look like to a few people in a closed alpha test. It was requested to all those participating in the test that they not share anything about Hyenas.

For the most part, it seemed like the alpha test went well, with players not recording and sharing what they’d seen online. Recently, however, a video popped up on YouTube which has since been made private, displaying some alpha gameplay of Hyenas. There was about an hour of footage of the game available for fans to view, including some matches alongside a general showcase of what the game looks like in its alpha stage. All of it was heavily watermarked, with the leaker’s username shown, so it seemed only a matter of time before it was taken down. In today’s gaming world, it seems leaks are part and parcel of the hobby, with some titles like MultiVersus also having a lot of gameplay and data shown from an alpha test.

Hyenas was only unveiled in June, and before that, Creative Assembly teased the upcoming shooter in a magazine interview. So far, the release date for the title is vaguely set for 2023, but now that some gameplay has leaked, there are fans who believe this could indicate Hyenas could be ready for a launch early next year rather than later. Still, until Creative Assembly confirms anything about the game, it seems fans will have to wait and see if a Hyenas beta or even full release is set for the near future.

2023 already looks to be a stacked year for video games, though a lot of the big titles coming in that year are delayed releases from 2022. The delays of games like Starfield, Redfall, and most recently Hogwarts Legacy may leave 2022 feeling like the pressure’s on for big releases such as God of War: Ragnarok and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet to perform well, but they will also make 2023 a great year for gaming.

Hyenas is currently in development.
