Now, the company has announced one of the major steps forward into making this transition. GameStop is in the process of opening a massive facility in York, Pennsylvania which will further expand the company’s North American network. The release states that the facility is 700,000 square feet and is expected to be operational by the “fourth quarter of 2021....
In a post on the GameStop site, the retailer laid out two plans for fulfilling orders if a store is closed or if a store is open. If their local GameStop is open, getting a pre-ordered game isn’t difficult. Those who have pre-paid in full can use GameStop Delivery@Door to get their game though they must call first so that an employee can meet them there. The retailer has also limited store hours meaning that gamers have fewer hours to get their pre-orders....
Those all remain open questions, but today we got our first glimpse at the future of Gaikai. The service’s website has been updated and is now adorned with screens from some of Sony’s most heralded franchises, including Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet and God of War. The Gaikai website redesign arrived without any fanfare, but it’s certainly generating a lot of attention. Whatever the future actually holds for the for the cloud gaming platform, the implication of the site’s current look is that Sony franchises - up to and including PlayStation 3 games - are going to be added to the service....

The project is being headed by Silent Hill’s Akira Yamaoka. The album will contain music from classics such as Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, and Super Mario Bros., while also including many modern titles like Red Dead Redemption and Dead Space. The album will go up for purchase on iTunes in early June with 100% of the proceeds going to the Japanese Red Cross to help those affected by the recent earthquake....

Of course, GameStop wants to stress that the closure of these stores is a byproduct of its “annual strategy” to shut down locations that haven’t been preforming as strongly as others. The report, published by Polygon, states that as many as 10 of GameStops district managers have been laid off, some of whom have been with the company for over a decade. Now, remaining district managers once in charge of 12 stores may have found themselves in charge of more than 20. Previously, GameStop announced the closure of 200 stores, and it doesn’t seem that the company’s situation is improving, given the layoffs....
GameStop’s current game deals offer discounts on numerous games for several platforms. The retailer is also giving discounts on recently released games such as Remedy Entertainment’s Control, which is available now for $49.94, which is $10 off of its list price of $59.99.
